A group of black
youths chased and attacked a Hispanic man in the streets of Baltimore
in a suspected revenge beating for the not-guilty verdict rendered by
jurors to George Zimmerman.
The attack, reported to police by an eyewitness who then took to Facebook to describe the incident, is under investigation, Baltimore authorities said. Police have not yet determined or ruled whether the attack was directly tied to Mr. Zimmerman’s acquittal, as the witness reported.
The eyewitness, Christina Dudley, described it on Facebook and to The Baltimore Sun newspaper this way: She was walking to her car on Sunday evening and saw several black male and two black female youths chasing a Hispanic man down the street. She said that “one of the boys had a handgun and it was pointed at the back of him.” The suspects captured the Hispanic man and began to beat him with what seemed to be the gun, and also stomped and kicked him.
She then said, The Blaze reported, that “they were just yelling and calling him names as they ran after him, but once they were hitting him … after that, they started yelling, ‘This is for Trayvon, [expletive].” Ms. Dudley also said she heard that phrase several times, The Blaze reported.
Ms. Dudley said she and another woman who happened to be taking her dog on a walk warned the group to quit, and that they were calling police, The Blaze reported.
