Yes Ma'am! MMhMM

Shocking: M16 Marksman, Bow Hunter, Mechanic, US Army Sergeant ...and Miss Kansas

“Nobody expects a soldier to be a beauty queen. But I’m all about breaking stereotypes,” Miss Kansas Theresa Vail told People Magazine.
She’s right. That’s very unexpected.
Vail, who has only recently become a ‘beauty queen’ within the last year, is a sergeant in the US Army, becoming only the second Miss America pageant contestant to be on active duty. To add to the unexpectedness, she is an M16 marksman, a bowhunter, and a mechanic. According to Fox News, she only decided to enter a beauty pageant 9 months ago “on the advice of her commanding officer.”

And when she says she’s about breaking stereotypes, she means it…
Second, Sgt. Vail has big tattoos. Two of them. One, the insignia for the U.S. Army Dental Corps, is on her left shoulder, while a massive version of the Serenity Prayer runs down her right side. And when she struts her stuff in the bikini contest in the Miss America competition this week in Atlantic City, they’ll both be on display for the world to see.
“My whole platform is empowering women to overcome stereotypes and break barriers. What a hypocrite I would be if I covered my ink,” Vail said. “How can I tell other women to be fearless and true to themselves if I can’t do the same? I am who I am, tattoos and all.”
So what did the US Army beauty queen from Kansas pick as her talent for the pageant? Archery. Unfortunately, she was told she wouldn’t be able to use that. Instead she learned a Pavarotti opera piece that she had never sung before.
It’s all about showing girls they can do anything they want to,” Vail said. “I want to help them develop confidence, to let them know that they have what it takes to accomplish anything they want to accomplish. I know many young girls look at beauty candidates and think, ‘What a perfect life they have.’ But I want them to know that I haven’t led a perfect life. And that beauty comes from the inside.”
What do you think? Is Sgt. Vail a better role model for girls than Miley Cyrus?

  3. Well, apparently I'm behind the times because Miss America was crowned this past weekend... And guess what? Her name Nina Davuluri, yea you try to announce it. Shes of Indian decent, as in India. In my opinion she holds no interest in America's value or purpose. Not that I really care, its all rigged anyways. Miss Vail is my Miss Merica!
